Yes, Virginia, MarkLogic is a NoSQL System

  1. The funny thing is that MarkLogic and CouchDB share than you would think. We're still in the process of opening up the details of our architecture (our bad, we're working on it), but note that it's mvcc, shared-nothing, with a REST interface (actually full WebDAV). MarkLogic natively understands XML structure, but can store JSON as well. The query interface and execution, update semantics, and index (we have one) are all very different. But, depending on the problem you're trying to solve of course, MarkLogic is a NoSQL system as much as CouchDB. Check out, for example, http://markmail.org or even http://couchdb.markmail.org - definitely NoSQL there :)
